The
master plan for revitalization of the Dana Point Harbor calls
for new retail space, surface parking and parking structures,
and pedestrian walkways. The concept plan also includes
updating, replacing and/or refurbishing the docks, ramps,
showers, and bathrooms used by boaters.

The scope involved evaluating the subsurface soil conditions,
assessment of the geological and seismic hazards of the site,
and the evaluation of alternatives for improvements of the
existing sea wall. The
most important geotechnical issue for this project is that
the potential for liquefaction of the existing fill soil is
high. Although the
liquefaction will be local, depending on where the
liquefaction occurs, it could severely impact performance of
the seawall. Leighton
also provided preliminary recommendations for pile
design for future building structures.
